Who are we?

We are a Christian Church.  We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world.  By Jesus’ death and resurrection we are made right with God as a gift of grace.

We are a Trinitarian Church.  We believe that God has revealed God’s self as one God in three persons, Father, Son(Jesus) and Holy Spirit.

We are Scriptural Church.  We believe Jesus is the Living Word that is revealed in the Written Word of the Bible.  The Bible is the authority for our faith and life.

We are a Worshiping Church.  We gather around Word and Sacraments to praise God.  We believe that when we worship, God comes to give us his gifts of grace in the Word, in Baptism and in Holy Communion.  Here God creates faith, strengthens faith and empowers us for service in our daily life.

We are an Evangelical Church.  Lutherans understand evangelical in the Greek New Testament  meaning of the “evangel” translated “gospel” in English.  We seek to focus on the gospel of Jesus not as required experience but as the good news of salvation received as gift.

We are a Confessional Church.  We use the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as confessions or statements of faith.  In addition, Lutherans have confessional writings that grew out of the 16th century Reformation.  These documents provide a shared understanding of our faith.  Luther’s Small Catechism and the Augsburg Confession hold up the principles of

  • justification by grace through faith as the way sinners are made right with God
  • distinguishing between law and gospel in the interpretation of scripture
  • the priesthood of all believers (all Christians are ministers)
  • faith active in love as the way our faith is put to work.

We are a member church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  The ELCA is made up of over 11,000 congregations and over five million members.  Together we do far more than we could alone.  Check out the ELCA and our Northwest Washington Synod by clicking on our home page.

We are an Ecumenical Church.  We see ourselves as part of the Christian Church that stretches around the globe.  We want to celebrate the unity we have in Christ with other Christians and work together in ways that honors and serve Christ in creating justice and peace.

We are a Welcoming Church.  We welcome all to come and share in our journey of following Jesus our Lord.
